The highly anticipated Overwatch update is finally upon us. Patch 1.39 has officially been pushed to the live servers and introduces a lot of new things to the game. Those changes include the Role Queue system for Overwatch matchmaking, new character Sigma, and a whole host of balance changes.
Starting off with the first (and most staggering) change is Role Queue. This new system will have players pick a role before queuing for a match, having two guaranteed characters on each of the three roles. The change is intended to bring some much-needed order to games, and makes character selection just that much easier. Players have been asking for the system since Overwatch’s creation, so it’s nice to have our requests finally answered. Role Queue is available in Competitive Play.
The second large change is Sigma, Overwatch’s 31st hero. Sigma is an eccentric astrophysicist, dedicated to harnessing the power of gravity. Through an experiment gone wrong he achieved this goal, but not without a cost. His mind was severely fractured, forcing him to be detained by Overwatch. Now, Talon as freed him and uses him as a weapon to wage war on Overwatch, entirely unknown to him. You can read more into his past through his origin story here. Sigma is a tank character, providing both a shield and ample damage for his team. Tank players will want to pick him up.
Finally, we have a whole host of balance changes. We won’t go over them here, as it would be too long to describe. Most notably, Brigitte has been reworked to fall more in line with her role as a support hero. You can read into both that and the remaining changes here. All of the above changes should leave players quite excited. If you don’t already play Overwatch though, it’s a team-based hero shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. It’s available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One for $40.
