During Tokyo Game Show 2026, Room 127 and Kodansha Game Creators’ Lab have announced Legacy Code, a new game that it will release for PC via Steam. It will launch in 2027.

In the world of Legacy Code, you become a mysterious creature known as a Mechanimal and set out on a journey to discover your true self. Defeat other Mechanimals to gain experience, collect parts, and modify your body to grow stronger and larger. The types of parts range from biological materials to inorganic objects! Build your own ultimate Mechanimal and complete your story.
Legacy Code is a physics-based simulation game where players build mysterious creatures called “Mechanimals” from scraps and junk.
By freely combining a variety of parts such as heads, arms, legs, and motors, players can create Mechanimals with unique appearances and behaviors. No two creations move quite the same.
The game’s defining feature is its proprietary physics simulation system, which ensures that Mechanimals will always come to life and move, no matter how bizarre their construction may be. Even a creature built with a specific goal in mind can end up walking in completely unexpected ways.
Not even the creator knows exactly how a Mechanimal will behave until it is set in motion. This unpredictability and the surprising discoveries it creates lie at the very heart of the Legacy Code experience.
Build, Battle, Connect.
The core gameplay of Legacy Code revolves around three interconnected activities: Build (assemble your Mechanimal), Battle (set your creation in motion and send it on adventures), and Collect (acquire new parts through combat).
Use the parts you earn to customize and improve your Mechanimal, then take it back into battle to face new challenges. By repeating this loop, you’ll gradually develop and refine your very own ultimate Mechanimal.
As your collection of parts grows, so do your possibilities. The cycle of building, battling, and collecting doesn’t just change the appearance of your Mechanimal—it transforms the very world you are able to explore.

Take control of your Mechanimal and journey through a variety of environments, from scorching deserts and snowy mountains to mysterious ruins. Wherever you go, new enemies await.
Defeat your opponents to claim their parts as your own. As you attach new components and reconfigure your build, your Mechanimal will grow not only in size, but also in power. More legs provide greater support, longer arms extend your reach, and heavier strikes deliver devastating force.

The parts used to grow and customize your Mechanimal come from all kinds of everyday objects: doll heads, character merchandise, electric fans, televisions, 3D puzzles, dentures, chains, cacti, and much more.
Each part has its own unique appearance and physical behavior, meaning that every combination can dramatically change the way your Mechanimal looks and moves. A simple tweak can lead to entirely unexpected forms and behaviors.
These oddly shaped yet strangely nostalgic pieces of junk are brought together by the player’s imagination, gaining a new kind of life as they become part of a living, moving Mechanimal.
