Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo has shared more insights into what the development studio is planning for 2027 and beyond in a new Famitsu interview, including the concluding chapter of The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon story and the next Ys game.
As reported by Hansuke21, Kondo states that Falcom intends to finish the current Trails beyond the Horizon storyline with its sequel. According to Kondo, the developers are determined to finish the storyline with the sequel, despite having made similar statements of past Trails arcs and not following through with it.
Development of the Trails beyond the Horizon sequel and a Trails in the Sky the 3rd remake would be difficult with the company’s current resources, so the order at which Falcom will tackle these projects is undecided. However, Kondo did express interest in remaking Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure. Some of the staff members at Falcom are approaching retirement age and would like to see the remake series continue through the end of the Crossbell Arc.
As for the Ys series, development of the next game has begun internally. Although Ys is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2027, Kondo noted that the game likely won’t be ready for release in that same year. Falcom hopes to share more information about the game during the anniversary year, at the very least.
There are still two projects at Falcom that are currently unannounced, and Falcom is planning to share more information about its Dragon Slayer project. Dragon Slayer’s development involves outside partners, so Falcom must also coordinate with them for the upcoming release.
