Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo shared some new tidbits about the company’s current outlook on a remake of Trails in the Sky the 3rd and the upcoming sequel to The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon in a new interview with ASCII (via Hansuke21). This follows up after a recent interview with GungHo Online Entertainment, where Kondo discussed hopes to continue making remakes following the release of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.
According to Kondo, a full remake of Trails in the Sky the 3rd is still undecided, and questions about developing the remake came immediately around the time that 2nd Chapter was finished. There’s also some discussion about whether Trails in the Sky the 3rd could be released as DLC for Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, similar to “Grim Garten” style content.
Regarding the sequel to Trails beyond the Horizon, Kondo says that he doesn’t think Falcom can keep delaying it any further. The team is working toward its next news update for the upcoming title.
“From the company’s perspective, for now I have to say that a full remake of Trails in the Sky the 3rd is still undecided,” Kondo said. “Personally, though, ‘I feel like it would almost be strange not to do it.’ In fact, around the time we finish the 2nd, the staff themselves start asking me, ‘Is it okay if we start working on the Trails in the Sky the 3rd already?’ That’s how high the motivation is internally, so I definitely want to do it somewhere down the line.”
“There was also some discussion about whether Trails in the Sky the 3rd could be released as DLC in some form, perhaps similar to the game-within-a-game ‘Grim Garten’ in Trails beyond the Horizon, modeled after as in-game elements of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. We haven’t decided what form it would take yet, so I think we’ll have to see how things develop and make a decision from there.
“As for the Calvard arc, I don’t think we can keep delaying it any further. We’re already working toward being able to announce the next news update before we keep fans waiting for too long.”
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter launches on September 17 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. The Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam versions cost $59.99, while the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition costs $64.99.
