Activision has opened pre-orders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for Nintendo Switch 2, and with that, several new details about the game’s release have been revealed. Retail listings for the physical Nintendo Switch 2 version have gone live in the U.S, confirming that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will ship with a code in box instead of a game cart for the platform.
The game’s large file size is the most likely factor for Activision going the code in box route, though a Game-Key Card release would have been slightly more palatable. The Nintendo eShop listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 confirms a 84.9 GB file size, which far exceeds the 64 GB game cart size that is available to developers and publishers.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on October 23 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Battle.net, and Microsoft Store. The open beta will be held on all platforms from August 28 to September 1.
Pre-orders for the Standard Edition ($69.99) and Vault Edition ($99.99) are now available on all platforms. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition includes:

Infinity Ward is working with Digital Legends to develop Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Nintendo Switch 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will support cross-play across all platforms, and the Switch 2 version supports Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. The Campaign Early Access period for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will begin on October 23.
