Star Ocean: The Second Story R and Star Ocean: The Divine Force are now available on PC via GOG as part of the GOG Preservation Program. GOG is hosting a sale on Star Ocean: The Second Story R (50% off) and Star Ocean: The Divine Force (60% off) as well through August 9.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R, the latest release in the series, is already available now on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Star Ocean: The Second Story R is not compatible with save data from the Switch version, and there’s no upgrade path either.
Final Weapon reviewed Star Ocean: The Second Story R and gave it a 4.5/5 score, noting that the game is a “masterfully done remake. The goal envisioned by the creators was to bring a classic game up to modern sensibilities, and they have truly outdone themselves. Star Ocean: The Second Story R takes the masterfully crafted systems of the original game, combines them with the updates from Star Ocean: Second Evolution, and wraps them up in a gorgeous and smooth package.”
Star Ocean First Departure R is also available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, so newcomers do have options to get into some of the game’s earliest entries, remastered and improved.
