Niantic and The Pokémon Company have announced the Pokémon GO Fest 2026 event will mark the debut of Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, the Mega Evolutions of the Genetic Pokémon Mewtwo. Mega Energy for Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will become available for the first time from Mega Mewtwo Super Mega Raids during Pokémon GO Fest 2026.
What’s more, as a special bonus during Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global, every Mega Mewtwo caught from Super Mega Raids will also have at least one Mega Level already unlocked and can be Mega Evolved without the initial energy cost. Lucky players may even catch a Mega Mewtwo who’s already at Mega Level 2 or 3.
Trainers who attend in-person GO Fest events this year can get early access to either Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y. Further, the City Experience in Tokyo, Chicago, and Copenhagen includes branching Timed Research that awards an encounter with Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y with their Mega Level.
Players who attend the Park Session can also battle Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y at the end of their session. Additionally, players can earn rare types of energy by defeating them in Super Mega Raid Battles in Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global, Mega Energy can be acquired by completing GO Fest Timed Research as well.
There will also be additional Mega Evolution system updates, including an option to use extra Mega Energy to quickly level up Pokémon’s Mega Levels without waiting for the daily progression cooldown. More details about upcoming changes are available at the official Pokémon GO blog.
