Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo has revealed major details regarding upcoming titles and the company’s future, including the upcoming The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon sequel and the final game in the Trails franchise, in a new Famitsu interview celebrating the company’s 45th anniversary. The 45th anniversary paves a long path toward the eventual end of the Trails series, with the final game to be revealed during the 50th anniversary in 2031.

The plot to the sequel of Trails beyond the Horizon is already complete, and the overall ending to the series has already been decided, according to Kondo. Falcom also has a rough idea of what the final protagonist’s profession will be, and the developers plan to complete the game in 2032. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter later this fall. In regards to the remake, Kondo revealed that recording for the theme song “Silver Will, Golden Wings” is complete.

Kondo also commented on overall reception to the shift to 2D combat in the upcoming action RPG, Kyoto Xanadu. He’s heard both positive and negative reactions, but he assures fans that it will be a fun game with four difficulty options. The setting of Kyoto was chosen since the city is representative of Japan.

Kondo shared a few tidbits regarding the next Ys game and the new Dragon Slayer Project. As previously announced, the next game in the Ys series is in development, and Adol may be the oldest he has ever been portrayed in this game. As for Dragon Slayer Project, Kondo didn’t say whether this game is a remake or a new game, so he asked fans to wait for future announcements.
