2K and Gearbox Software have paused development of the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4, according to the Q3 2026 earnings release from Take-Two Interactive. Take-Two notes that the Borderlands 4 developers are focusing on post-launch content and ongoing optimizations, alongside working with Nintendo on the development and releases of upcoming games like PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26 for Switch 2.
“We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU,” Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis told Variety. “Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game. We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have ‘PGA Tour 2K25‘ coming out and ‘WWE 2K26’ [for Switch 2], and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.”
Borderlands 4 launched first on September 12, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version was planned for release on October 3, 2025 but Gearbox Software delayed the release for “additional development and polish time,” and all digital pre-orders in the Nintendo eShop to date have been canceled.
In the same earnings release, Take-Two confirmed that Rockstar Games will begin launch marketing for Grand Theft Auto VI in summer 2026. Grand Theft Auto VI is still planned to release on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
