Square Enix revealed new details and screenshots for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined going over visual updates, the main story, features, new DLC, and much more. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will feature character designs originally created by the late great Akira Toriyama.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined features a hand-crafted 3D art style reminiscent of miniature figurines with diorama-style environments and dungeons. Dramatic event scenes were also recreated in this new style.
The story of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined begins on Estard Island where the protagonist and his best friend stumble upon strange fragments of an ancient tablet. When they place the fragments into a pedestal in a mysterious shrine, a magical light transports them to an unknown world. Each newly discovered tablet grows the world around them, and they embark on a quest for answers as they encounter malevolent forces. Players can also experience many unique events and side stories, the UI has been redesigned with a tab-based menu, and the classic Lucky Pearl mini-game is back.
In the story of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, the main party of characters from Estard Island will travel between two worlds and meet people from all walks of life, including some that will accompany them in the party.
- Protagonist (English VA: Isaac Rouse, Japanese VA: Koki Osuzu)
- A boy from Pilchard Bay, a fishing village on Estard Island. Though he leads a peaceful life as a fisherman’s son, he often wonders what lies beyond the sea.
- Kiefer (English VA: Roly Botha, Japanese VA: Mamoru Miyano)
- The prince of Estard, his family has long governed the island and its people. Highly inquisitive and proactive, he races around the island with the protagonist to uncover the world’s mysteries.
- Maribel (English VA: Becky Wright, Japanese VA: Aoi Yuuki)
- Though she’s always looking to get her own way, she’s a sweet girl below the surface. All the same, she has no intention of letting her childhood friends, the protagonist and Kiefer, go on an adventure without her
- Ruff (voiced by Clare Corbett in English, Japanese VA: Mutsumi Tamura)
- A cheerful, pure-hearted boy who is always accompanied by a wolf. Though sometimes naive, he possesses sharp, animal-like instincts.
- Aishe (voiced by Amrita Acharia in English, Japanese VA: Asami Imai)
- A young Roamer woman devoted to the Earth Spirit, determined to restore the Almighty. Skilled in swordsmanship, she is also gifted with a natural talent for dance.
- Sir Mervyn (voiced by Nicholas Boulton in English, Japanese VA: Shigeru Chiba)
- A member of the Holy Order of the Almighty, he once fought the Demon King alongside the very deity he worships. Skilled in a variety of sword techniques, he still possesses the skills that earned him the title of hero.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined’s battle system has undergone various changes. Party members’ spells and abilities have evolved, and so have monster appearances and behaviors.
Each vocation comes with a unique perk that can be activated in battle when a character gets “worked up.” These vocational perks can turn the tides of battle in your favor and seal your victory.
