Jiro Ishii’s New Live-Action Game is Now Called Shibuya Scramble Stories

An announcement could be made this July.

428: Shibuya Scramble executive producer Jiro Ishii announced his new “Shibuya Live-Action Adventure Game” will now be titled Shibuya Scramble Stories. Ishii also confirmed that development of the new game will begin with over 33.5 million yen from the Ubgoe crowdfunding campaign, which is 670% more than the initial five million yen funding goal, and a sponsorship from “a certain company.”

Moreover, Ishii confirmed that an “official announcement” could be made on July 13 for Shibuya Scramble Stories. Actors Kousei Amano (Shinya Kano in 428: Shibuya Scramble) and Yuto Nakamura (Achi Endo in 428: Shibuya Scramble) will be joining the game’s previously announced cast, which includes Masakazu Arai (Keima Amemiya in Machi: Unmei no Kousaten) and Fumio Kitagami (Minoru Minorikawa in 428: Shibuya Scramble). Aya Kamiki also return to perform the new game’s theme song.

Ishii is leading development of the new game alongside screenwriter Yukinori Kitajima, and it will be set in Shibuya just like its predecessor. The game features an “ensemble drama” system, which brings a synchronized story with multiple protagonists. Players will experience a multiple-perspective scenario and explore each character’s viewpoint.

Previously, Ishi shared a message regarding the new game, revealing that 428: Shibuya Scramble was created as a successor to Machi: Unmei no Kousaten. He expected that a game would eventually come to surpass both titles. However, no such game emerged, and Ishii approached various game companies about a follow-up project.

At the time of the game’s conception, discussions with those companies fell apart, since many were concerned with marketing and business than the core of the project. Despite having felt like he needed to distance himself from the project, Ishii and his team decided to develop the new game independently.
