SEGA and McLaren have announced a collaboration between the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and the car company’s racing division. The collaboration will continue until 2026.
In many ways, this is a collaboration more than 30 years in the making. At the 1993 European Grand Prix known as the Sonic Grand Prix, the late McLaren F1 racing driver Ayrton Senna was awarded a Sonic the Hedgehog trophy on the podium. There will be new releases that fuse the world of motorsport and gaming in ways that currently have not yet been confirmed.
In a statement, Marcella Churchill, Vice President of SEGA/ATLUS Brand Marketing, said the following: “The collaboration between Sonic the Hedgehog and McLaren Racing underscores our shared passion for high-speed action and racing. Racing is in the DNA of both the Sonic and McLaren brands. It’s where we began and what drives us forward. By combining Sonic’s iconic appeal with McLaren, we’re creating a partnership that should excite fans everywhere. This partnership is about celebrating our shared values, and we can’t wait to share this collaboration and the future activations to come with fans.”
Later this year, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will release on September 25 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona 5, and Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon are among the first three DLC characters that will be released for free in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
In addition to free DLC characters, there will be paid DLC characters, thanks to various editions of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and the Season Pass. The season pass will feature characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
