It will debut during Anime Expo, which will start on July 4, at a themed pop-up (1054 S Olive St.) in Little Tokyo. It will also be available via Ludwig.gg on July 7. The Cowboy Bebop merch features original pin designs from voice actress LilyPichu and original artwork by Chinese artist and illustrator Jiankun Yu (both lifelong anime and Cowboy Bebop fans).
In a statement, Ahgren speaks about his connection with the anime franchise: “The first time I watched Cowboy Bebop was on a flight to Arizona. I was moving from New Hampshire, the only home I had ever known, to start my college life. I was 18 at the time and scared of a world where I didn’t know anyone. The only reason I was even watching Cowboy Bebop was to pass the time so I wouldn’t have to mull over the anxious thoughts that plagued my mind.
What I didn’t realize at the time is this show would make me a full-fledged weeb. And beyond just entertainment, anime would form my interests, give me blind confidence like my favorite characters, and change my philosophy on what I value. It’s corny from the outside in to say but it’s the truth. And it all started with Cowboy Bebop.”
