Japanese outlet Dengeki Online recently sat down with Digimon Story Time Stranger producer Ryosuke Hara to talk about the game’s development process. In one of the questions however, the interviewer asked about the game having any online connectivity features, to which the producer said that Digimon Story Time Stranger was designed to be a single-player experience.
You can view a translated quote of that interview below:
Dengeki: Will there be any online features in Digimon Story: Time Stranger?
Ryosuke Hara: Digimon Story Time Stranger will be single-player only. If we were to support multiplayer, the battle balance would inevitably have to take that into account. For this title, we’ve decided to design it entirely around a single-player experience, so that players can become more immersed in the story.
The interviewer also asked the producer about the title’s connection to past titles in the Digimon Story franchise, in which he responded with the following quotes:
Is there any connection between Time Stranger’s story and past Digimon Story titles?
Ryosuke Hara: This is a title that can be enjoyed on its own. I’ve noticed that some have speculated about the connection between certain characters from Time Stranger into past Digimon Story titles, but my hope is that fans will enjoy the story for what it is, without thinking too deep into it.
What direction will Digimon Story: Time Stranger’s story take?
Ryosuke Hara: The concept of “depicting the bond between people and Digimon” remains the common theme of the Digimon series. And in Time Stranger, the worldview we’ve created emphasizes that theme even further. As you play through the story, you will certainly understand how the past and present intersect, and how exactly the concept comes into place.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger will launch on October 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam with Japanese and English voice overs. Pre-orders for Digimon Story: Time Stranger are currently available in several storefronts. You can watch a trailer for the game below:
