Kojima Productions and Line Mileage have announced that an animated adult feature film based on Death Stranding film is in development. The film will tell a completely original story.
Aaron Guzikowski (Raised by Wolves, Prisoners) will write the upcoming film. Line Mileage is a relatively new animation studio that will likely produce the movie. Both an anime and film adaptation are also in development. Kojima said the following about both:
“When it comes to adapting games into visual media, there are works like The Last of Us, which stays true to the original storyline, and films like The Super Mario Bros Movie which are more of a service to fans of the game.
While these works have their own merits, as a film enthusiast, I want to pursue the expressive potential of cinema. I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realized through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation.”
Michael Sarnoski (A Quiet Place: Day One) will direct the new live-action film adaptation of Death Stranding. A24 will produce the Death Stranding film with game producer Hideo Kojima as the film’s producer, according to Deadline. The release date for the anime, animated film, and live action movie are unknown.
The next entry in the Death Stranding franchise, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, will release on June 26. Pre-orders for the Collector’s Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition are available now. These editions feature early access, allowing players to play the game two days early on June 24.
