Resident Evil Requiem Lets You Play in Either First-Person or Third-Person Perspective

    Play your way.

Resident Evil Requiem was far and away the biggest announcement at Summer Game Fest this year, and we had the opportunity to catch a first look at gameplay following the showcase. Protagonist Grace Ashcroft, an employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is set to journey back to where it all began: Raccoon City.

I was able to watch just around 20 minutes of gameplay at Summer Game Fest: Play Days, and the biggest takeaway by far was Capcom’s surprise at the end: Resident Evil Requiem is playable in both first-person and third-person. You are able to choose the perspective in which you’d like to play, which opens up a floodgate of possibilities for fans of both perspectives. You’ll find a setting in the menu that allows you to choose either First-Person or Third-Person perspective, with the former acting as “recommended”.

Resident Evil first made the jump to first-person with the release of Resident Evil 7 in hopes of bringing about a more immersive take on survival horror. Resident Evil Village continued that trend, and now the choice is ultimately yours.

Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Stay tuned for a more detailed preview of our Resident Evil Requiem impressions soon on YouTube.
