Nintendo has released a new update for the Nintendo Today app, which blocks users from taking screenshots and screen recordings. The exact reason for the update is currently unknown.
Nintendo Today initially released on March 27 for iOS and Android. The app acts like a daily calendar with news, videos, and comics for fan-favorite Nintendo games and characters from select franchises. Anyone with a Nintendo Account and compatible smart device can use the free app from the App Store and Google Play. The block applies to both devices.
Nintendo has used the app to reveal new details about its upcoming system, the Nintendo Switch 2. This includes the official Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case, revealing that video captures on the Switch 2 will still be 30 seconds long, and that the GameChat will support multiple screen sizes, live subtitles, and text-to-speech. It will likely reveal more as the console approaches its launch.
Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5 for $449.99. A bundle will be available for $499.99 featuring Mario Kart World. Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 at Best Buy, Walmart and Target went live on April 24 and quickly sold out within just a few hours. However, Nintendo and other retailers will periodically replenish stock leading into launch. Other games like Cyberpunk 2077 and upgrade packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will also be available at launch.
Additionally, according to insider PH Brazil, a new Nintendo Direct will take place at some point in the first two weeks of June. It will either take place at some during the week of June 1, near the Nintendo Switch 2‘s launch, or the week after between June 8 and June 13.
