Nintendo has partnered with Samsung to ramp up production for the main chips of the Nintendo Switch 2, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Nintendo reportedly aims to sell more than 20 million units by March 2026, and Samsung is pushing for OLED screens in a potential revision.
Samsung is working on the Nintendo Switch 2 processors designed by NVIDIA using its 8nm node. Anonymous sources from Bloomberg claim that the production pace should be fast enough for Nintendo to surpass the 20 million mark for Nintendo Switch 2. Samsung can also ramp up production even further, depending on capacity from hardware assemblers like Foxconn, to bolster competition with TSMC in the chipmaking industry.
It’s worth noting that the official forecast from Nintendo for the new console is 15 million units, which factors in a tariff impact of tens of billion yen on profit this year. However, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa noted that the forecast doesn’t reflect supply constraints.
Moreover, Samsung is pushing for OLED displays to be used when Nintendo eventually refreshes the Switch 2 in the future. The refresh would likely come near the halfway point of the Nintendo Switch 2’s lifecycle, as previously seen with the original Nintendo Switch OLED model.
Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5 for $449.99. A bundle will be available for $499.99 featuring Mario Kart World. Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 at Best Buy, Walmart and Target went live on April 24 and quickly sold out within just a few hours. However, Nintendo and other retailers will periodically replenish stock leading into launch. Other games like Cyberpunk 2077 and upgrade packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will also be available.
