Sega Sammy released the company’s Q4 financial results for the fiscal year ended March 2025, confirming the Sonic the Hedgehog series sold 1.56 million copies between January and the end of March. The Sonic the Hedgehog series sold 6.54 million copies in the fiscal year ended March 2025.
The next release for the series is Rovio’s free-to-play 32-player battle royale game Sonic Rumble for Android, iOS, and PC via Steam. An exact release date was not announced, as the game has been delayed from its original May 8 global launch date. It was delayed to ensure Sonic Rumble is the “high-quality, long-lasting” Sonic game that SEGA wants fans to enjoy. Currently, the development team is working on introducing the Rumble Ranking system, Crews, and unique Skills for each character.
Moreover, pre-registration for Sonic Rumble is live on Google Play, App Store, and Steam, and players can earn rewards at launch for reaching pre-registration goals. Players can earn 5,000 Rings, Happy sticker, Crystal Chao buddy, Garnet Knuckles skin, and Movie Sonic skin by meeting the pre-registration goals.
The latest release in the mainline series, Sonic X Shadow Generations, launched on October 25, 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Final Weapon reviewed Sonic X Shadow Generations and gave the title a 4.5/5, stating that the game “delivers all the thrills you could hope for with almost none of the drawbacks.” Lastly, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Sonic X Shadow Generations will launch on June 5.
