In The Apothecary Diaries episode 41, Jinshi, Luomen, Lady Gyokuyou, and the rest of Maomao’s acquaintances began their search for Maomao, who was essentially kidnapped by Suiren. Luomen suggests the aid of Maomao’s cat in order to find her, and Jinshi also realizes that something peculiar about Shisui. Jinshi is shocked by his realization, which Maomao also discovers with her own intuition.
Shisui and Maomao are both taken away by Suiren to her hometown, but on the way there, Maomao learns that Suiren is deeply afraid of snakes. Although cruel, she attempts to make Suiren have a panic attack by throwing a nearby snake toward her, and while doing so, Maomao deduces that Shisui is related to Suiren. The two are actually sisters, and there’s a lot more that Maomao will discover as she awaits new knowledge about the resurrection medicine from Suiren.

The new episode is titled “Lantern Plant,” and it will stream with English subs first, followed by the English dub at 1:00 p.m. PDT / 4:00 p.m. EDT. 12 episodes will release in the second cour of Season 2, according to the anime’s schedule.

What to Expect in Episode 42
In Maomao’s absence, Luomen stays by Lady Gyokuyou’s side in The Apothecary Diaries episode 42, as she’s expected to go into labor soo. Meanwhile, Jinshi learns that a eunuch disappeared around the same time that Maomao was praying at the northern graveyard. This also happens to be the site where women who are favored by the late emperor were laid to rest after passing away.
While searching for more clues about Maomao’s whereabouts, Jinshi visits the site and encounters a court lady. He notices a familiar scent of alcohol, which is one that Maomao typically carries. Jinshi presses the woman in order to seek further information and potentially reunite with Maomao.
