In Nintendo’s financials results explanatory material for fiscal year ending in March 2025, Nintendo forecasted Nintendo Switch 2 to sell 15 million units by the end of the current fiscal year ending in March 2026. If Nintendo Switch 2 reaches 15 million units, it will be close to or matching the original Nintendo Switch’s first year hardware sales in less time.
Nintendo also published its earnings release for the fourth quarter ending on March 31, 2025, revealing that Nintendo Switch sales reached 152.12 million worldwide. 1.26 million Nintendo Switch hardware units were sold in the fourth quarter.
Demand for Nintendo Switch 2 is incredibly high, with more than 2.2 million people in Japan alone having submitted My Nintendo Store pre-order lottery applications. My Nintendo Store counts as a single retailer, so this is an indicator that Nintendo Switch 2 is heading toward a historic launch in Japan and around the world.
Users in Japan could sign up for the My Nintendo Store pre-order lottery for Nintendo Switch 2 if they accumulated more than 50 hours of playtime on Switch before February 28, 2025, excluding demos and free-to-play titles. In addition, users must be subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for at least a full year and still have an active subscription.
Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5 with a $449.99 MSRP, and a bundle will be available for $499.99 featuring Mario Kart World. Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 at Best Buy, Walmart and Target went live on April 24 at 12:00 a.m. EDT, but stock will be replenished periodically leading into launch.
