In April, the official Twitter/X account for the upcoming Godzilla manga, titled Galaxy Odyssey, has announced that it will release on May 27. The manga, written by Jyu Ishiguchi, will release in Akita Publishing’s Young Champion magazine. Further, Shinji Nishikawa will design Godzilla for the series and Hiroshi Maruyama will design the space monsters. Ishiguchi is also credited with the manga’s art and mecha design.
Recently, TOHO confirmed that Godzilla has been nominated for two 2025 Licensing International Excellence Awards. Specifically, the IP has been nominated for Best Live Action Brand and Best Hardlines or Packaged Goods Collaboration. Additionally, a recent article from Bloomberg Japan revealed that the next film from director Takashi Yamazaki will be a direct sequel to Godzilla Minus One. Yamazaki directed the original film, which released in 2023.
Godzilla Minus One focuses on a different, more rageful iteration of the titular monster. The movie received an Oscar for best visual effects. While TOHO has not confirmed any official details about the follow-up’s story, in a previous interview, Yamazaki stated that he wanted a sequel to have “a more serious tone of kaiju-versus-kaiju with human drama.”
