Outside the city of Anvil lies the Whitmond farm, the home of Maeva the Buxom. There, players can talk to Maeva to begin the When the Vow Breaks quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Players can not only get a handsome sum of Gold from this quest early on in their playthrough, but some valuable weapons and gear while progressing it.
Anvil is located in the southwest edge of Cyrodiil in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Players can simply teleport to Anvil by pressing on any of the city’s icons on the world map. Then, it’s just a brief trek north of Anvil to Whitmond farm, so it’s very hard to miss.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered – How to Complete the When the Vow Breaks Quest
Maeva the Buxom is a friendly NPC that will speak about her husband as soon as you begin talking to her. Select the “Husband” dialogue option to begin the When the Vow Breaks quest and learn about her husband’s disappearance and her family’s heirloom, the Rockshatter magical mace. Bjalfi the Contemptible, Maeva’s husband, has taken Rockshatter and is holding up with some marauders at Fort Strand, which is southeast of the Whitmond farm. The map marker for Fort Strand will be automatically added to the map after accepting the quest.
Fort Strand has some tough marauder enemies, but it’s certainly worth clearing out. While carefully traversing and clearing out enemies, you will eventually encounter Bjalfi the Contemptible, who is hostile to the player. Kill him and retrieve Rockshatter from his body to get the next quest step, which is simply taking the weapon back to Maeva.
Before leaving, making sure to kill all the enemies in Fort Strand. One of the marauders will have a Long Sword of Flames, which deals high Fire Damage on Strike based on your level. In addition, another enemy at Fort Strand has Orcish Armor, which is great for melee and heavy armor builds.
Rockshatter deals points of Shock Damage and applies a percentage of Weakness to Shock, depending on the player’s level. The weapon is not particularly powerful compared to the Long Sword of Flames, so you will want to give Rockshatter back to Maeva in order to get some gold as a reward. The amount you will receive as a reward starts at 20 gold at level 1 and increases by 25 gold per level afterward. When ready, give Rockshatter back to Maeva to complete the When the Vow Breaks quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
Maeva is a Perfect Target for The Dark Brotherhood
After returning Rockshatter to Maeva, the weapon will be designated as just an ordinary enchanted Dwarven Mace. Since she is not featured in another quest, Maeva is a good entry point to the Dark Brotherhood questline in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Killing her will not net you a bounty nor will it increase your infamy, so when you’re ready, you can do the deed.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available now for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
