Bungie announced the Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate expansion launches on July 15 as the first of two expansions for the “Year of Prophecy.” The second expansion, titled Destiny 2: Renegades, will release on December 2 and it will leverage inspiration from the Star Wars franchise. These two expansions set the stage for the Fate Saga, the next overarching narrative of Destiny 2.
Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate reintroduces the Nine, powerful and mysterious beings who existed long before the Traveler. Players will face a new threat that predates everything Guardians know about their familiar solar system. Lodi, a new ally, will be a central character to the story alongside Warlock Vanguard Ikora. The expansion takes place on Kepler, a new destination that draws inspiration from Destiny 2’s dungeons.
Players will uncover secrets and wonders on Kepler, along with an abundance of dark matter energy. Dark matter powers the new Matterspark and Mattermorph abilities. Matterspark lets players bind dark matter in order to squeeze through tight spaces, jump and dash across terrain, and destroy enemies. Mattermorph lets players combine dark matter and Strand to manipulate their surroundings. There’s also the Relocator Cannon, which uses Fallen dark matter tech to teleport players.

Destiny 2: Renegades Revealed
Releasing on December 2, Destiny 2: Renegades will be a Star Wars-inspired expansion with elements of the IP. It will pay homage to the Star Wars franchise, introduce new Destiny characters and activities, and offer new mechanics.
“With each of our Fate Saga Expansions, we’re looking to break from our past formulas and deliver something truly unique, and Renegades is no exception” said Justin Truman, Destiny Vice President, in a press release. “It’s a Destiny story at heart, but with a Star Wars-inspired take that’s been a dream for us to explore.”
Rite of the Nine is Now Live
Before The Edge of Fate and Renegades comes Rite of the Nine, a new event in Destiny 2 for all players that’s now live starting May 6. The event offers three dungeons—Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep—with new twists and familiar encounters. These dungeons include refreshed weapons with Nine-inspired designs. Rite of the Nine is essentially a prologue to The Edge of Fate, allowing players to reconnect with Orin, the Emissary of the Nine. Players can also earn new Bungie Rewards by completing Titles and Triumphs. The rewards include new product assortment, such as a uniquely created Displate by community artist Gabriel Flauzino.
