    Charge the courtyard!

The protagonist of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is often referred to as the Hero of Kvatch, and that’s due in part to the player’s heroic efforts in the quest The Battle for Castle Kvatch. In this walkthrough guide, you will learn how to complete The Battle for Castle Kvatch in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and what you might encounter, including a strange bug that may occur.

Before starting the quest, you will need to complete the main quest Breaking the Siege of Kvatch, which sends players through their first Oblivion gate in the game. Once complete, Savlian Matius will congratulate the player in the Chapel of Akatosh on closing down the Oblivion gate, but it’s not over yet. Players can speak with Savlian again when they’re ready to begin The Battle for Castle Kvatch. Before accepting the quest, be sure that you are at least level 10 or higher and have an abundance of good armor, enchanted weapons, and repair hammers.

When you tell Savlian that you’re ready, you can enlist the aid of an Imperial Legion as a companion to help you before exiting the chapel. You will then fight and defeat some Dremora and Scamps, and Savlian will tell you to speak with Berich Inian and retrieve the key to the guard house. You can choose to receive the key from Berich Inian or let him guide you to the guard house. If Berich dies during the quest, you can loot the key from his body to continue.

Simply follow the quest marker, head through the tunnel and up to the guard house, carefully defeating enemies like Flame Atronach and Clannfear along the way. Eventually, you will reach a trap door taking you up to the guard house, and you can raise the gates at the other end up some stairs. However, only raise the gates once you are ready to take on hordes of enemies. A Lesser Staff of Lightning and strong magic will do well against the groups of Clannfear, Flame Atronach, and Scamp enemies heading your way.

It’s worth noting that the Imperial soldiers fighting with you will likely die, but this will not affect quest progression. However, it could cause a strange bug to occur where Savlian stays put in the Castle Kvatch courtyard where he continuously says the hero should charge the courtyard. Fear not, as this bug can be easily fixed.

Steps on Finishing The Quest and Fixing the Savlian Courtyard Bug

To continue the quest, you can proceed inside Castle Kvatch regardless of encountering the bug or not. There will be Daedroth and Flame Atronach inside, so be sure to use any repair hammers on broken equipment before heading inside. Akaviri Katana and enchanted blade weapons work well against Daedroth, but there are a multitude of weapons to defeat them. Carefully take these enemies out and proceed to the Great Hall. A few more Daedroth and Flame Atronach await, so repeat the process.

With the coast clear, head down the hall until you reach the door to the Count’s Quarters. Inside the Count’s Quarters, you will find the body of Count Goldwine, and you can search his body and obtain the Colovian Signet Ring to present to Savlian, which also fixes the bug. Speak with Savlian one more time to complete The Battle for Castle Kvatch in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and earn a Kvatch Cuirass as a reward.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available now for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
