In The Apothecary Diaries episode 40, Maomao began to dig into the recent history of Shenlu, since she was feeling uneasy about Luomen’s plan involving the list of warnings for poisonous chemicals that could harm pregnant women. When she began to talk to Shenlu, this feeling only grew, and eventually, Maomao’s fears were warranted when Suiren appeared. The mastermind behind the resurrection medicine is back, and she will kill Shisui if Maomao doesn’t go along with her plans.
Maomao and Shisui are essentially kidnapped as Suiren’s plan unfolds. Meanwhile, Ah-Duo disguises herself as the “imperial younger brother” as Jinshi attends a meeting between Lakan and Shishou. There, Lakan essentially interrogates Shishou about knowledge into the feifas, or guns, that were used on an attempt to kill Jinshi a few episodes back. Lakan also reveals that he’s now married, as the end of the first season previously alluded to.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 episode 41 premieres on Friday, May 2 at 9:15 a.m. PDT / 12:15 p.m. EDT on Crunchyroll. The new episode is titled “The Fox Village,” and it will stream with English subs first, followed by the English dub at 1:00 p.m. PDT / 4:00 p.m. EDT. 12 episodes will release in the second cour of Season 2, according to the anime’s schedule.

What to Expect in Episode 41
Maomao’s absence brings a sense of uneasy as the palace, and with no clues discovered, Jinshi is left in an anxious state in episode 41. At the medical office, he retraces Maomao’s last actions and finds out that her cat, also named Maomao, is missing as well. Luomen overhears the conversation and suggests that finding the cat could give them a lead on Maomao’s whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Maomao and Shisui are being transported by Suirei to a location that’s far away from the palace. As the previous episode showed, Suirei likely plans to show Maomao how the resurrection medicine is made, but this likely won’t be a friendly exchange of information. While trying to find a way out of this situation, Maomao begins to observe something about Suirei’s behavior that could be crucial going forward.
