The Apothecary Diaries episode 38 saw Maomao solve a mystery surrounding a “dancing ghost” in Lady Lishu’s bathhouse. It turned out that Lishu’s family heirloom, a magic mirror, had an etching of Lishu’s mother’s face. When the moonlight was cast through the curtain and onto the mirror, it created a ghost like projection of her face into it. While Maomao solved the mystery, Jinshi enacted some justice on a former lady-in-waiting that was bullying Lishu.
Later into the episode, Gaoshun and Jinshi further discussed revealing the truth about Jinshi’s identity to Maomao. They both want Maomao on their side for some sort of plan that appears to be in opposition of Kan Lakan, Maomao’s biological father. While pondering about what Lakan’s potential goal at the palace could be, Jinshi and Gaoshun decide to visit the handsome eunuch that all the ladies are talking about. Elsewhere in the palace, Xiaolan seemingly bumps into a eunuch transporting an expensive block of ice for Lady Loulan, leading into episode 39.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 episode 39 premieres on Friday, April 18 at 9:15 a.m. PDT / 12:15 p.m. EDT on Crunchyroll. The new episode is titled “Ice” and it will stream with English subs first, followed by the English dub at a later date. 12 episodes will release in the second cour of Season 2, according to the anime’s schedule.

What to Expect in Episode 39
The preview shoes Xiaolan in a state of hopelessness and shock due to her grave mistake. Maomao comes to her best friend’s rescue, however. She devises a plan to repurpose the broken ice into a frozen dessert that would satisfy Lady Loulan.
This task is easier said than done, since the frozen dessert requires specific ingredients and preparation. With no time at all to waste, Maomao turns to Jinshi for help. In return, Jinshi proposes a condition to could prove beneficial for himself and her. In addition, it appears that Lady Gyokuyou may be entering labor soon.
