Square Enix has announced that, as of April 9th, 2025, the North American Square Enix store will be officially pausing new merchandise pre-orders. According to the message at the top of the pre-order page, the reason for this pause is due to “ongoing international tariff uncertainties”.
It’s worth noting that for the time being, this pause only affects the North American branch of the Square Enix store, which only ships to the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The items that are affected by the pause will no longer appear in the pre-orders section of the Square Enix store, so any items still listed should be shipping without issues, hopefully.
Moreover, Square Enix Manga & Books teamed up with Penguin Random House to launch Comic Partner, a new retailer support initiative to promote adaption of more manga in comic bookstores in the US. Starting in April 2025, retailers enrolled in the Penguin Random House Direct Partnership Program will have access to the Square Enix Comic Partner initiative.
The Comic Partner initiative includes store manager education, in-store promotional materials, early access to select new manga, and more. Moreover, Comic Shop accounts enrolled in the Direct Market Partnership Program will now be considered Square Enix Comic Partner stores. The stores will receive branded in-store promotional materials, one-on-one manga retailer calls, and free advance galley copies of select upcoming series.
