    After years of anticipation, it is finally time: the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is upon us. The event will begin today, April 2, at 9 AM EDT/6 AM PDT/8 AM CDT. The direct will be 60-minutes long and will focus on what fans can expect from the upcoming console. Expect to see news about the Switch 2’s price, pre-order time, launch games, and of course, the release date.     When Will The New Nintendo Switch 2 Release?

    The Nintendo Switch 2 will be available on June 5. It will be available alongside Mario Kart World, Nintendo Switch 2 Tour, and more.

    The C-Button

    The C-Button is part of a brand-new mechanic for the Nintendo Switch 2, known as the GameChat. The GameChat is similar to the app, Discord, in that it features the ability to talk with friends while playing. There is also the ability to share the screen. The C-Button will pull up the chat on the Nintendo Switch 2. A camera will also be available and will allow players to show their faces during playtime. The camera will be available on the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2.

    Mario Kart World

    Mario Kart World

    Mario Kart World is the latest entry in the iconic series. The game features several new modes, such as free roam and knockout tour. There are also new maps, new characters, and new power-ups. The trailer teases the use of the Wonder Flower from Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the ability to drive anywhere and everywhere around the map. 

    Mario Kart World will be available on the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2. A Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2 will air on April 17 at 9 AM EDT.

    Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is a tech demo that will be available at the system’s launch. The paid digital game will provide an overview of the console’s new features, such as HD Rumble 2, the Mouse JoyCons, and more.

    Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 + Jamboree TV will be available on July 24. The upgrade will feature updated visuals, plus new mini-games and modes that take advantage of the Switch 2’s new microphone, mouse functionality, and more. The upgrade will be available via a paid upgrade pack.

    The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will also have Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, featuring 4k visuals, HDR support, and new compatibility with the Nintendo Switch App. Kirby and the Forgotten Land will include a new exclusive story mode, and both Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will include 4K graphics and 60 FPS support for the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusively.

    Drag X Drive

    Drag x Drive is a brand new IP from Nintendo. The game is a basketball-esque title where you control robots using the new JoyCon mouse controls. It will be available in Summer 2025.

    Third-Party Titles

    Nintendo has announced several third-party games that will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. These include Elden RingYakuza 0, Hades IISplit Fiction, EA Sports FCMadden, Civilization VII, Hogwarts Legacy, WWE 2K25Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Remake IntergradeHitman, Deltarune, and more. 

    When Do Pre-Orders Open for Nintendo Switch 2?

    Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will go live on April 9. It will be available via participating retailers such as Best Buy, Amazon, and more.

    How Much Does Nintendo Switch 2 Cost?

    The Nintendo Switch 2 will be available for $449.99 in the West. The base edition will include the Nintendo Switch 2 console, Joy-Con 2 controllers (L+R), Joy-Con 2 Grip, Joy-Con 2 Straps, Nintendo Switch 2 Dock, Ultra High-Speed HDMI Cable, Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter, and USB-C Charging Cable. A bundle including Mario Kart World will also be available for $499.99.
