Game Informer Has Returned As An Independent Outlet With 100% Of Its Staff

Revived and back better than ever.

    Published:

Last year, the then-owner of Game Informer, GameStop, shut down the publication after 30 years of history. This resulted in the entirety of the outlet’s staff being laid off, despite its 33 years of service and over 350 magazine issues. Following teases from former staff members last week, Game Informer has announced today that the website is back, with 100% of the former staff back.

Gunzilla Games, developer of Off The Grid and GunZ, a blockchain-powered game. District 9 and Gran Turismo Director Neill Blomkamp has served as the Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer at Gunzilla Games since 2020. Game Informer will operate independently under Gunzilla as a new entity called Game Informer Inc., with the editorial team retaining 100% of all decisions regarding content coverage.

The website is now live once again, and the team has written dozens of reviews for games that were released following the website’s shutdown. All of the previous years of back content have returned, with magazine archive access available for members.

The outlet has plans to bring back the physical print magazines in a grander capacity than ever before. Editor-in-Chief Matter Miller shared, “Our intent is to bring back the magazine bigger and better than it was before, and add a host of membership and subscription benefits, including an expanded scope to our videos, streaming, and feature coverage, while also broadening the range of experts and partnerships we tap to bring you those perspectives.”

You can visit Game Informer’s website for the full letter from the editor.
