PlayStation and Sony Santa Monica have announced a 20th anniversary update for God of War Ragnarok. The update includes new cosmetics for Kratos, Atreus, Freya, and their weapons.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the new cosmetics are based on the original draft of God of War (2005), titled “Dark Odyssey.” In the original version, Kratos had a black and gold scheme compared to his iconic white and red design. The design made in appearance in God of War II if players beat the game on the hardest difficulty, God Mode.
Kratos will receive the design as a cosmetic in the new Ragnarok update. Freya, Atreus, Kratos’ weapons, and his shield will also receive new skins based on “Dark Odyssey.” The update will be available on March 20. More God of War anniversary content, such as new items in the Steam Points Shop, a new PlayStation avatar, and merch will be available in the coming weeks.
Recently, according to a recent article from Bloomberg, Sony has cancelled an unannounced God of War live service game and a new title from Bend Studio. Bluepoint Games was working on the former.
Fans have speculated on what the developers behind the Demon’s Souls and the Shadow of the Colossus remaster could be working on next. It appears to have been a live service God of War game. Bend Studio previously worked on Days Gone. Sony has not revealed any further details about the live service God of War game or the live service Bend Studio title.
The most recent God of War game, God of War: Ragnarok, is available now on PC and PlayStation 5.
