During SXSW 2025, Warner Bros. and Max released a new official trailer for the season 2 of The Last of Us. The season will premiere on April 13.
The trailer showcases more of the season’s returning cast members, such as Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and Gabriel Luna as Tommy. It also shows off some of the new cast, which includes Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, and Young Mazino as Jesse. Further, it reveals the return of spores from the original game, a key part of the series’ lore which was absent in season 1.

In a recent interview with Variety, the producer of The Last of Us franchise, Neil Druckmann, hinted at the series’ end. When asked about the possibility of The Last of Us Part III, Druckmann stated, “I was waiting for this question. I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of Last of Us. This could be it.”
In the past, he has stated that he has a concept for “one more chapter” to the franchise, which would likely be The Last of Us Part III. However, it’s unlikely to come anytime soon, due to development of Naughty Dog’s next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Lastly, the first season of The Last of Us TV show is available now on Max. The series’ second season will air on April 13.
