Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced that they’ve officially started production of the Gundam live-action film. They will produce the film alongside Legendary, the film company known for Pacific Rim, Dune, and Godzilla. Jim Mickle (Sweet Tooth) will direct the film.
Bandai Namco initially announced the Gundam film in 2018. Originally, Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) was attached to direct the film. It is currently unknown why he is no longer directing the film. Moreover, Bandai Namco announced the establishment of Bandai Namco Filmworks America to help produce the film and co-finance it.

In January, GKIDS announced it acquired North American distribution rights for the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- anime film. The film will come to theaters in North America on February 28. The weekly TV anime adaptation will follow up at a later date.
The staff working on Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX includes the Evangelion franchise creator Hideaki Anno as script writer, alongside Yoji Enokido. Kazuya Tsurumaki is the anime’s director. Take is the character designer. The voice cast includes Tomoya Kurosawa as Amate Yuzuriha, Yui Ishikawa as Nyaan, and Shimba Tsuchiya as Shuji Ito.

Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space.
When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.
Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.
Now their world is about to enter a new era
