The first teaser trailer for Screamer was revealed today at The Game Awards. It will be a reimagining of the 1995 racing game of the same name. As of writing, little is known about how the game will actually play, although if the trailer is anything to go by, it will probably be intense.
The game comes from Milestone, the same company behind the Hot Wheels Unleashed titles. Screamer will be arriving on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in 2026.
Screamer Game Awards 2024 Teaser Trailer
While the trailer features no gameplay, it does showcase the game’s art direction and animated cutscenes. These cutscenes will be animated by the anime studio Polygon Pictures.
With this in mind, Screamer will likely take a more narrative-focused approach compared to most other racing games. It seemingly takes place in a cyberpunk setting with references to a tournament, which the game’s characters will almost definitely compete in.
The title will supposedly blend extreme racing and fighting mechanics. How this combination will work has yet to be seen. However, with this detail, one can expect this to be one of the more aggressive racers available on the market.
Very few other details are currently available, but the game’s website can be visited here. Additional details will appear on Milestone’s social media pages. For more updates, be sure to keep an eye on Final Weapon!
The original Screamer released exclusively for MS-DOS. It was developed by Graffiti, which eventually became Milestone. While the game did manage to spawn four sequels, the IP has been dormant since around 2001.
For those who are curious, the first Screamer game can still be purchased on Steam and GOG. It’s doubtful it will be representative of the upcoming title, but perhaps it’s worth a look.
