The ultimate challenge of Ys X: Nordics isn’t the final boss, as a secret boss is hidden in the Rogue Sea, the game’s final stretch in the Obelia Gulf. There you will meet Vermóðr, the Ultimate Griegr.
To fight Vermóðr, you need to head to Jotunn Island in the Rogue Sea, which becomes accessible in the final chapter of Ys X: Nordics. The path to Jotunn Island is very narrow with a lot of curves, so it will be a tight fit for the ship. However, you will get there in just a few minutes from the entrance of that strange path.
How to Beat Secret Boss Vermóðr in Ys X: Nordics
Firstly, Adol and Karja must be at least level 80 or higher in order for them to deal solid damage against Vermóðr. I fought him at level 85 and didn’t have too much trouble at all on the Normal difficulty. End-game weapons and armor are also great against him, including weapons and armor crafted from Sverkite back on Balta Island. You will also want to have revival items and items that heal paralysis, including Panacea III and Golden Mead.
Head to the center of Jotunn Island to fight Vermóðr, who immediately gains a durability bar that must be depleted with Duo Mode attacks. You will need to dodge his strong lightning-based strikes and physical blows, along with a massive orb attack and a devastating boulder slam. You will be blocking, parrying, and dodging quite a lot once you have his attack patterns memorized, which is very important.
Whittle away at his durability bar to stun him and deal damage to his insane health bar, with roughly 385,000 HP. You should be able to get his health down to 50% before his regenerates his durability bar again. Once that happens, continue to deplete the durability bar with well-timed Duo Mode attacks and skills, which should be leveled to the max by this point of the game.
Vermóðr will ramp up his electric ground slam and orb attacks once his health gets lower, so it’s mostly just a battle of attrition until his health finally reaches 0%. Again, continue to block and parry attacks, and then counterattack with Duo Mode skills until you can deal those decisive blows to his health. Once defeated, you unlock the Vermóðr of Mercy trophy/achievement.
