Aniplex Says You Should Start with Fate/stay night Remastered

    Start with the visual novel.

During today’s Fate/Grand Order Anime Expo panel, Aniplex of America’s Albert Kao reminded fans that Fate/stay night Remastered is arriving later this year in English for the first time. With this mention, he stated that this is the best starting point for the series. “Now, if anyone asks ‘Where should I start in Fate?’, the obvious answer is here”.

Previously, it was challenging to mark a starting point of the series without an official English version of the visual novel. While you could play an emulated fan-translation version of the game, that is not accessible to all players. So, many opted to start with the Fate/stay night anime from Studio Deen, which attempts to cover Saber’s route. Now, however, there is finally a clear starting point for the series with Fate/stay night Remastered. The visual novel is the source material, and it provides the most detailed version of the story, which is not possible in any of the anime adaptations.

This release will mark the third major Type-Moon title to make its way to the West. Type-Moon first began this initiative with Witch on the Holy Night, which released in December 2022 for PS4 and Switch simultaneously in Japan and in the West. The latest release, 2021’s Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, was finally released in English for the first time across Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 last week. Be sure to check out our 4.5/5 review here.

A Type-Moon Times presentation will be held on August 3 with more information on Fate/stay night REMASTERED. It’s likely that we will receive information regarding physical editions and a release date here. This main visual is likely the box art for Fate/stay night REMASTERED

Fate/stay night REMASTERED will launch in 2024 worldwide on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam from Aniplex and Type-Moon. A PlayStation version of the title has not been confirmed at this time.
