Toshihiro Kondo Says Falcom Is Preparing Something for Fans Looking to Start at the Beginning of the Trails Series

    A hint toward the future.

In a new interview with Degenki Online, Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo sat down to discuss all things The Legend of Heroes with the 20th anniversary on the horizon. The interview is a fascinating read, but one point in particular was very interesting.

When asked about the future of The Legend of Heroes, Kondo replied that the team understands it is challenging to play the earlier titles due to them being locked to older hardware. They would love for new players to start with the newer releases, but he believes that there are many people who would like to start from the beginning. And with that, he teased that Falcom is preparing something that will hopefully be announced sometime in the 20th anniversary.

As for what this could be, it has been widely speculated for some time that the team at Falcom could be working on a remake of the first Trails title, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. This, of course, is followed by Trails in the Sky SC and Trails in the Sky the Third, which are all only available on PSP, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PC via Steam.

Allowing these games to head to current platforms would allow for the entire series to be playable on one console, especially after Trails to Azure and Trails from Zero were released for current systems in the last few years. More players would be able to jump in and experience one of the best RPG series out there.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak is set to release next week in English for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. An announcement for Trails through Daybreak II is likely set for Anime Expo. For more on Trails, be sure to check out Final Weapon’s extensive coverage of the series.
