Naughty Dog initially released The Last of Us Part II in 2020. Their most recent games have been several remasters/remakes of their older eighth generation titles including The Last of Us Part I and Uncharted 4/Lost Legacy. Recently, Naughty Dog cancelled their GAAS title, The Last of Us Online. It is currently unknown when their next new game will release, though Neil Druckmann recently teased The Last of Us Part 3.

The creators of the recent The Last of Us TV show, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, have revealed the episode count for the series’ second season in a new interview. The season will officially have seven episodes, two less than The Last of Us Season 1. That said, both talked a bit more about the reason for the less episodes, hinting at not just a third season, but a fourth season. They state the following:

“We don’t think that we’re going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons [2 and 3] because we’re taking our time and go down interesting pathways which we did a little bit in Season 1 too. We feel like it’s almost assuredly going to be the case that — as long as people keep watching and we can keep making more television — Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require Season 4.”

The Last of Us TV show is available now on Max. Additionally, both The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2 are available on the PlayStation 5. Naughty Dog will likely reveal more about the future of the franchise in the coming months.
