Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s PS5 Exclusivity Period Is Officially Over

    The shackles have been broken.

As of today, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can now come to new platforms other than the PlayStation 5. The exclusivity period began when the game launched on February 29 and has ended as of yesterday, May 29. Rebirth followed Final Fantasy VII Remake by staying exclusive to PlayStation hardware for a limited period of time. This was originally announced alongside the game, with PlayStation assisting with marketing.

ReportedlyFinal Fantasy VII Rebirth sales fell below expectations for Square Enix. Since the game was exclusive to PlayStation 5, many have made the assumption that the lack of access to other platforms could have impacted sales.

With Square Enix now set to “aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs”, it seems like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth could be making the jump to new platforms later this year. This would allow millions of new players to experience the title, with PC players eagerly awaiting the second chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake project.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has only released on PC outside of PlayStation 5, though it is possible that Square Enix will reasses and bring the game to Nintendo or Xbox platforms. Whatever the case may be, we’d expect the PC release of Final Fantasy XVI to occur prior to any FFVII Rebirth release elsewhere.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available now for PlayStation 5, with future platforms possible now that the exclusivity period over. Be sure to check out our 5/5 review of the game, where we stated, “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a generational RPG that exemplifies everything there is to love about the medium.”
