What Happened in Episode 9? (Recap)

    Solo Leveling Episode 9

Solo Leveling episode 9 focuses on Kang Taeshik, revealing that he accepted an three billion won (Korean currency) offer to kill three prisoners in a dungeon. These prisoners assaulted a man’s daughter, and the father seeks revenge over her suicide. Kang accepts the offer, but he’s only doing so because he’s a bloodthirsty killer himself.

Unfortunately, Kim Sangshik and Park Beom-Shik are Kang’s next victims, since they were witnesses to the murder of the prisoners. Kim is barely alive from the attack, but he shares his final words to Jinwoo, Joohee, and Song before the group is ambushed by Taeshik. Jinwoo observes Joohee and Song fight against Kang, and he finally steps in to reveal his powers.

Kang is not surprised by Jinwoo’s power and speed. He’s mostly intrigued by his E-rank status, but he shrugs it off since he believes in his superior fighting experience. However, Jinwoo continues to surprise Kang with his tenacity and ever-increasing speed and strength. In no time, Jinwoo is able to poison Kang and whittle away at his defenses.

Despite Kang’s valiant efforts, Jinwoo’s Murderous Intent is only made more powerful after the B-rank hunter confesses his true feelings about the recent murders. The System fully backs Jinwoo, and he unleashes a devastating final blow that alters Kang’s own perception. Before his death, Kang warns Jinwoo that his power will only cast a bigger shadow behind him, an abyss that can swallow him hole.

After Jinwoo defeats the dungeon boss by himself, the episode ends with a post-mission evaluation from Woo Jinchul and an assistant. Song covers for Jinwoo, taking the responsibility for Kang’s death in order to conceal the truth of Jinwoo’s power.
