Remedy Entertainment Acquires Full Rights to Control Series

This includes Control 1, the upcoming Control 2, and a new project named Condor.

Remedy Entertainment have announced that they have acquired the rights to one of their recent franchises: Control. They have taken over publishing, distribution, and marketing for the series which includes the original Control, its upcoming sequel Control 2, and its multiplayer spin-off, Condor.

Over the last few years, Remedy has had a major resurgence. This has come courtesy of both 2019’s Control and 2023’s Alan Wake 2. The latter is the latest entry in “Remedy Entertainment’s Connected Universe.” The franchise includes the first Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control. It is unknown if their new upcoming multiplayer game, Kestrel, will be included in the franchise.

Remedy Gains Full Rights to Control Series (Including Control 1, Control 2, and Condor)

    Condor Remedy

In a recent press release, Remedy announced that they have purchased the publishing, marketing, and distribution rights for the Control series from 505 Games. In 2017, the two companies entered into an agreement that would give 505 Games a new series to publish, while Remedy would get a new publishing partner.

The new announcement is part of an ongoing effort for Remedy to “have more ownership over our business and the IPs we have created.” Now, after a 17 million euro purchase, Control, Control 2, and Condor and their subsequent marketing, distribution, and publishing are now entirely in Remedy’s hands.

    About Upcoming Remedy Games

Remedy has several games that they are developing. These include remakes of the first two entries in the Max Payne series, Control 2, the previously announced Control multiplayer spin-off by the name of Condor, and Kestrel, originally named Project Vanguard. It is currently unknown if they will be making an Alan Wake 3. In a previous update, Remedy revealed more about the development progress on Control 2 and Condor:

“Control 2 continues in the proof-of-concept stage. The plans for this sequel are ambitious, and we have seen good progress both in the designs and in the game build. We will continue at this stage for the next few quarters. We focus on proving the identified key elements before moving to the next stage and scaling up the team.

Condor, a co-operative multiplayer game, has progressed from the proof-of-concept to the production readiness stage. We have acquired valuable insights into developing service-based games and are now in a better position to create a game players can engage with for years.”

Lastly, Remedy’s most recent game, Alan Wake 2, is available now on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more details on Remedy’s gaming lineup so far, check out our retrospective of their history here.
