    What Happened in Episode 1?

Solo Leveling episode 1 introduced the premise of the series, with hunters tackling dungeons from an unknown dimension and defeating monsters to gain riches and protect the world. Sung Jinwoo is incredibly weak as a poor E-rank hunter. Despite his weakness, his friend Lee Joohee cares for him, and other hunters seem to not mind his presence either. Jinwoo resents his weakness, since hunting helps support his sister.

Joohee expresses her concern for Jinwoo before they go into their next dungeon with a group of experienced hunters. After suffering a near fatal injury, Jinwoo gets healed by Joohee and further laments his weak self. Near the supposed end of the mission, the group discovers an entrance to another dungeon. The group votes to continue exploring, with Jinwoo’s vote being the one that would seal their fates.

After reaching a vast room full of large statues, the group begins to read strange tablets left over from another civilization. Curiosity turns to horror, as the large statues begins to kill the hunters one by one. At the very end of an episode, Jinwoo and Joohee realize that they’re about to die.
