It seems that Nintendo is phasing out over 15 Nintendo Switch titles. ResetEra user Neoxon outlined each of the titles that are going out of print according to Amazon. This comes just before the Nintendo Switch turns seven years old, with games ranging from a release year of 2017 to 2023. This weekend, users noticed titles like Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Metroid Dread being marked as sold out consistently across all retailers.
The following titles are seemingly going out of print at retailers:
- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
- Fire Emblem: Engage
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- Kirby Star Allies
- Mario Strikers: Battle League
- Metroid Dread
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Nintendo Switch Sports
- Paper Mario: The Origami King
- Pikmin 3 Deluxe
- Splatoon 2
- Super Mario Maker 2
- Super Mario Odyssey
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (2019)
- WarioWare: Get it Together!
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2
- Yoshi’s Crafted World
If you still don’t own one of the above titles and want to add it to your collection, you should do it as soon as possible. When these titles are sold out, resale copies will be extremely pricey and well upwards of the $60 MSRP. Get them while you can.
Why Are Nintendo Switch Titles Going Out of Print?
This could be for multiple reasons, with the main idea being that Nintendo may be prepping to release a line of ‘Nintendo Selects’ for the Nintendo Switch. Usually released at the end of each generation, this line of games is heavily discounted and promoted with the Nintendo Selects branding. Additionally, this could be for Nintendo to rebrand them with compatibility for the Switch 2 or whatever the next console is called. It’s highly speculated that the company will launch the Switch successor sometime in 2024, so the timing is right for the most part.
Overall, it’s very puzzling to see titles like Fire Emblem Engage, which isn’t even a year old yet, seemingly going out of print. The same can be said for Super Mario Odyssey, one of the best-selling games on the system. There are likely circumstances like we’ve outlined above, but it’s anyone’s guess until we know more.
While these games might not be physically available from retailers, they will still remain available for digital purchase on the eShop. We’ll keep an eye out on this topic and update you on any additional titles when more information is found.
