AMD Announces New Ryzen 8000G and 5000 Desktop Processors

Current and legacy platforms get a new lineup of CPUs.

During CES 2024, AMD announced a new lineup of Ryzen 8000G series desktop processors alongside new Ryzen 5000 processors for the legacy AM4 platform. These processors give PC gamers more budget and mid-range options for their next new build. 

Despite being a legacy platform, AMD continues to support the AM4 platform with updates for users gaming with Ryzen 5000 series desktop processors. The company also released in the Micro Center-exclusive 5600X3D CPU in 2023. In 2024, even more 5000 series processors will be available alongside the next generation of AM5 processors. 

New AMD Ryzen 8000G and 5000 Desktop Processors – Launch Dates, Specs, and Pricing

Eight new AMD Ryzen desktop processors were revealed at CES 2024, with four Ryzen 8000G series and four Ryzen 5000 series processors. The new 8000G series supports many of the latest Zen 4 technologies from AMD, including AMD Ryzen AI technology, AMD Expo, and Precision Boost Overdrive. The flagship 8700G includes Radeon 780M graphics, which are the current fastest for integrated APUs on the market. 

All eight of the new processors will be available on January 31 at retail. OEM systems with new 8000 series processors will be available in Q2 2024. These processors include:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 8700G
  • AMD Ryzen 5 8600G
  • AMD Ryzen 5 8500G
  • AMD Ryzen 3 8300G

The following 5000 series CPUs will be supported on select AM4 motherboards:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5700
  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600GT
  • AMD Ryzen 5 5500GT
