Toei Films revealed that a new film in the Butt Detective anime franchise will air on March 20, 2024. The movie will be titled Farewell My Beloved Partner (Butt).
Butt Detective is an anime series that initially premiered on NHK International in 2018. New episodes of the anime released in 2021, alongside a new film. The series focuses on a detective with a butt for his face and his partner, a small brown dog named Brown, as they solve crimes.
Butt Detective New Anime Film Details
Toei Films revealed on Thursday, December 21, that a new film in the Butt Detective franchise will premiere in March 2024. The movie will be titled Farewell My Beloved Partner (Butt), and will drop on March 20. Japanese Heavy Metal Quintet Nemophila will perform the campaign song “Odyssey.” Check out the teaser trailer below:
Kenji Satō will be directing the film, Natsuko Takahashi and Jun Narita will pen the script, and Hiroshi Takaki will be the movie’s composer. According to Anime News Network, “the film’s story revolves around the sudden reappearance of Oshiri Tantei’s partner who disappeared 10 years ago. He receives a mysterious message from Suisen and soon finds himself embroiled in a case of counterfeit art involving a massive plot to shake up the art galleries around the world.”
The previous film, which premiered in 2021, focused on the titular detective going against criminal mastermind Professor Shiriarty. The character is a play on Sherlock Holmes’ arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty. Poplar published Troll’s first Oshiri Tantei picture book in Japan in 2012, and the series has more than 9 million copies in print. The franchise has also inspired a stage musical and a Nintendo Switch game.
Lastly, Butt Detective: Farewell My Beloved Partner (Butt) will premiere on March 20, 2024. Toei Films and the film’s staff will likely reveal more about the upcoming movie in the coming weeks and months.
