SEGA and ATLUS released new details about upcoming fantasy RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio, including story and characters. In addition, new concept art was released, and a special live broadcast was announced for December 11.
During The Game Awards 2023, SEGA and ATLUS have released a new trailer for Metaphor: ReFantazio, confirming the game’s fall 2024 launch. Many more details and screenshots were revealed after The Game Awards 2023 finally concluded.
The Story and Setting of Metaphor: ReFantazio
The story of Metaphor: ReFantazio takes place in the United Kingdom of Euchronia. An assassination of the king causes unrest in the region, leaving a power vacuum in its wake. One day, the Royal Magic is invoked, and the world is pushed into a royal tournament to determine who will be at the seat of the throne. Meanwhile, the protagonist and his partner, the fairy Gallica, attempt to break a curse that was pleased on the prince. They must travel the land, participate in the tournament, and gather allies in order to achieve this goal.
Characters
The protagonist is a boy of the elda tribe, which the state religion brands as “tainted” people due to dangerous and heretical magic. They’re often discriminated against in the kingdom. Gallica serves as a guide for the protagonist, giving him insight into magic and special abilities while journeying together. The protagonist and Gallica are joined by Strohl, Hulkenberg, and Heismay.
Strohl is a young man belonging to the clemar tribe. He has a strong sense of justice and belongs to a noble family. Despite his privilege, Strohl decides to enlist in the army alongside commoners.
Hulkenberg is a knight of the roussainte tribe and a former Kingsguard that served the price. She excels in the use of various weaponry, despite her young age. When the prince was attacked, she failed to protect him and decided to wander the world.
Heismay is a former knight of the eugief tribe, and his acute perception makes him makes him a notable ally. Like the protagonist, Heismay is discriminated against for his appearance. He carries his own burden from the past.
Upcoming Broadcast
ATLUS will host a special YouTube live broadcast in Japan for Metaphor: ReFantazio on December 11 at 8:30 p.m. JST / 3:30 a.m. PST. The Japanese VA cast will be guests for the broadcast, including Natsuki Hanae as the protagonist, Sumire Morohoshi as Gallica, Kensho Ono as Strohl, and Saori Hayami as Hulkenberg. The stream will be available in Japanese only, however.
