Nacon RIG 600 PRO HS Review – Not The Worst Choice

Very cool features from a $99 offering, but misses the mark with the microphone.

In today’s oversaturated market of gaming headsets, Nacon is striving to establish itself as a noteworthy contender. However, it faces stiff competition from established industry giants such as Razer, Logitech G, HyperX, Corsair, SteelSeries, and more. I will be providing an honest review of the Nacon RIG 600 PRO HS, a headset that I was fortunate enough to receive at no cost from Nacon. During my evaluation, I will compare this headset to other headphones, including headsets I have previously owned and used.

Nacon has introduced its first dual wireless headset, the 600 PRO. I am reviewing the PlayStation model, known as the 600 PRO HS. The 600 PRO feels lightweight and flexible, making it one of the most comfortable headsets I’ve personally worn. However, compared to other headsets in its price range, the battery life is not impressive, standing at only 18 hours. The headset comes with a flip-to-mute microphone that can be adjusted through the application.

With the dual wireless feature, users can connect the headset to Bluetooth 5.1 and 2.4 GHz simultaneously. This function can be accessed by downloading the Navigator application on an Android or iOS device through their respective app stores. The application offers a range of features to enhance the functionality of the 600 PRO. You can customize the headset’s name, monitor battery life, update firmware, fine-tune audio settings, switch between profiles, and access other useful options. These capabilities enable you to optimize your audio experience and streamline your workflow. I found the app very intuitive, but it wasn’t able to fix one of my biggest problems with the headset. Unfortunately, the microphone quality is unacceptable and the worst I’ve heard compared to other headsets in this price range.

The Worst Offender – The Microphone

    RIG 600 PRO HS

The 600 PRO’s microphone quality is a major drawback, especially in gaming, where clear communication is vital. The microphone volume is fairly low and sounds tinny. If this is how the microphone is supposed to sound, it is incredibly disappointing and negatively swayed my judgment of the product. I had a hard time hearing the pronunciations of words through replayed recordings and felt the audio was extremely quiet. For games, this was extremely inconvenient for my teammates in matchmaking. At this price range, it could be much better.

The problem with the microphone is significant enough that I opt out of using it entirely, even if I have no choice but to go silent. I have used the Corsair HS80 Wireless Headset, which is within this price range, and it has a much better microphone. I will admit that there are far worse headset microphones out there, but that doesn’t give this headset microphone a free pass to sound the way that it does. Microphone quality is equally important as sound quality, so a bad microphone really hurts a headset.

When it comes to comparing audio headsets, it may be worth considering non-gaming options such as the AirPods. Their affordability can vary depending on the generation, but they are generally a cost-effective choice for those in search of decent wireless headphones that come with a microphone. They aren’t nearly as convenient to connect to your Windows computer as the previously mentioned headsets in this review, but they’re the golden standard for their price point and portability.

AirPods are tiny wireless headphones with impressive sound quality. Most general users of video game consoles have or utilize AirPods with their devices. Nintendo Switch and PCs have built-in Bluetooth functionality to make this possible. Even the earlier generations of these headphones manage to produce a better microphone quality than this brand-new headset from 2023. With this review, I held Nacon to the standard of a corporation to produce a comparable or superior sound.

The Conclusion – Should You Buy the RIG 600 PRO?

I truly believe that there are far better options out there than the Nacon 600 PRO HS if you’re looking for a gaming headset. If you’re making a purchase, you should consider factors such as microphone quality, battery life, and overall audio performance. Although the Nacon 600 PRO HS is durable, it falls short when it comes to microphone quality. Because of this, it is difficult to recommend it over other options. In a market full of alternatives, better choices offer a more comprehensive gaming experience at a lower price.

The Nacon RIG 600 PRO HS has some strengths, including durability, but falls short in other areas. Clear communication with teammates is essential, and unfortunately, the Nacon 600 PRO HS’s microphone quality doesn’t quite measure up to competitors like HyperX or Corsair. If you spend a lot of time coordinating with teammates or chatting with friends while gaming, a weak microphone could be a significant drawback. Battery life and overall audio performance are also crucial factors to consider. Some other headsets on the market offer longer battery life, and I frequently found myself tethered to a charging cable while reviewing this headset.

If the microphone quality on the RIG 600 PRO was better, I could recommend the headset at $99.99, but not even the sound settings in the impressive Navigator App can make up for that. It’s a gaming headset, so the microphone needs to sound good while gaming. If people are complaining about the sound quality of your microphone, you’re doing them a disservice.
