CD Projekt Red has released a cinematic trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. The new trailer provides background for the upcoming expansion’s story.

CD Projekt Red initially released Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. Critics panned the game for its unfinished state and deceptive marketing. The upcoming expansion, Phantom Liberty, is said to add everything the game was initially missing. Phantom Liberty will release on September 26, 2023.

The new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty focuses on the DLC-exclusive characters Songbird and Solomon Lane. Lane, played by Idris Elba, is departing Night City and heading towards the “homeland.” In early promotion for Phantom Liberty, Lane has been described as a secret agent working for the New United States of America. However, in the new trailer, he looks to be finally free of his spy duties.

That is, until his handler Songbird betrays him and sends bodyguards to execute him. Lane is presumed dead after a gunshot. The trailer picks up seven years later, right before the events of the upcoming expansion. Songbird is on a flight with the President of the NUSA when their ship is shot down. Phantom Liberty will take place moments after, as the President crashes into Dogtown, the lawless region of Night City exclusive to the DLC.
