    First Pokémon Live Action Drama Series Premiering on October 19 in Japan

    Adapting the Red & Blue games.

    The Pokémon Company has announced that the first-ever Pokémon Live Action drama series will premiere on October 19 in Japan. The series will adapt Pokémon Red and Green, or Pokémon Red and Blue as it is called in the West. At the time of writing, an English release has not yet been confirmed.

    Pokémon Red and Green was initially released in Japan in 1996. Two years later, Red and Blue released in the West for the Gameboy. Over the years, there have been several entries in the franchise, from anime, to sequels, to even live-action movies. The upcoming TV Show will mark the first time Pokémon has had a live-action TV show.

    Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Starters

    The upcoming Pokémon Live Action series will premiere in Japan on October 19, 2023. The series will star Nanase Nishino, an actress described as an avid Pokémon fan. The drama will star Nishino as protagonist Madoka Akagi, who initially arrives in Tokyo to be a creator. As she struggles to make it through the day, she returns to her childhood game, Pokémon Red.

    The series will premiere on TV Tokyo and other channels on October 19 at 24:30 JST or October 20 at 12:30 AM JST. It will premiere on October 24 on BS TV Tokyo and TV Tokyo 4K. The drama series will also be available for streaming exclusively on U-Next.

    This year has been massive for Pokémon fans, from DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the new anime series, and Pokémon Sleep finally releasing after years of anticipation. Fans should expect more information on the franchise’s future and the upcoming TV series in the coming weeks and months.

    Lastly, the most recent Pokémon game, Scarlet and Violet, is available now on the Nintendo Switch. Part 1 of the game’s DLC will be available on September 13. The upcoming live action drama series will premiere in Japan on October 19, 2023.
