Xbox has launched a new Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S firmware update that completely overhauls the Home page. It will be available for everyone on both consoles starting today.

The latest Xbox update has been in development for quite some time. It overhauls the user interface and makes things more seamless for both consoles. It is highly recommended that you download the update as soon as possible.

The official blog post from Xbox confirms more aspects of the update. Here’s an overview of everything the new Xbox Home update adds.

    • It makes accessing Library, Game Pass, Search, Settings, and Store pages easier.
    • It gives more space for the personalized background by streamlining the layout and putting recently played games at the bottom of the screen.
    • The option to change your background to match the game you have highlighted in the “recently played” list.
    • It shows games curated and personalized just for you, allowing players to discover games they never would’ve tried otherwise.
    • Allows further customization by giving the option to pin their favorite games, curated games, and features like Quick Resume to the main Home page.
    • Features updated friends and community page.
    • It shows what media apps are available to you via a new “Watch and Listen” page.

Ivy Krislov, senior product manager lead, clarifies what went into creating the new Xbox update. “Improving the Home Experience has been truly a Team Xbox effort,” she says,
“from engineers to designers to researchers and many more. We started by investing in infrastructure that would allow us to try different layouts of the page with different content for different situations and customers. We then evaluated many different elements of the design process including what people interact with in the experience, how easy it is for people to complete the action they want to take, and how satisfied they are with the overall experience.”

After further testing, the update is available now for a subset of Xbox consoles. That means it will be available for all Xbox owners in the next few weeks. If you own an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, expect the update to be available to you very soon.
